Art: Experimentation with light
James Turrell - Roden Crater
Dan Flavin for Calvin Klein
Light has always been a fundamental element of art, as skilled artists must balance light sources and accurately illustrate their shadows. However, more recently, some artists have begun using light as the main focus of their works, creating truly unique masterpieces.
One digital artist who achieves this remarkably well is Female Pentimento, a Brooklyn-based artist gaining traction online. Female Pentimento's art almost always revolves around its light features. She produces her work by introducing light features to natural pictures, creating beautiful art pieces.
James Turrell is another artist primarily known for the way in which he manipulates light. He has built numerous museums, buildings, and general architectural masterpieces worldwide, that are in and of themselves art. One of his most famous works is the "Roden Crater", in the Northern deserts of Arizona.
Erin Hanson is also known for her unique style of tampering with light. She is an Oregon-based artist known as the creator of open impressionism, which is best described as an abstract, contemporary take on impressionism. She gained popularity both locally and globally, with many famous pieces. One that highlights her unique interpretation of light is "Radiant Light".
Contrarily, Dan Flavin is a late artist who worked with physical art installations, creating beautiful minimalistic pieces. His work usually features light strips arranged in different patterns and colors. He worked with many esteemed brands, including Louis Vuitton and Calvin Klein.
